Today’s competitive global market demands communication skills as a prime requisite in the labor market. Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 aims to make Bahrainis the employees of choice in the private sector (Bahrain Economic Development Board, 2009). As such, equipping our students with professional knowledge/skills as well as employability skills such as team work abilities and communication skills is a crucial aspect of our school’s mission. To achieve this mission, the Speakers Club was formed on October 24, 2013.
The club offers its student-members a platform to develop their communication and leadership skills. The club’s multifarious activities such as prepared speeches, speech evaluations, extempore speeches, debates, serving as Club Officers, organizing and conducting meetings/ events as Master of Ceremonies, etc., are intended to foster creative/ critical thinking abilities, collaboration skills, evaluation, problem-solving and decision making abilities, time management, adapting to change and research skills, to name a few. All of these core skills also nurture students’ emotional intelligence required to function as successful individuals in the workplace and community.
The Speakers Club is non-political, non-racist, and non-gender-biased. The in-house club is open to APG students from Grade 6-12. The club meets every Thursday (only school work days) from 2.00-4.00 pm at the school premises.
